FEEDERS SHOULDN'T NEED REPLACING.
SO WE BUILT ONES THAT DON'T.
When Bird's Choice was founded in 1992, the market was full of wood feeders that cracked within a season, swelled shut after rain, and grew mold that harmed the birds they were meant to attract. Our founders asked a simple question: what if a bird feeder was so well-made and so weather-proof that replacing it simply never came up?
The answer shaped everything - the material we chose, the factory we built, the products we designed. It guided our first feeder and it still guides every decision made in Chilton today.
What we build lasts.
Our Sunflower Seed Bird Feeder in Red is a testament to our quality. It was the feeder we started with and continues to stand the test of time. High-capacity, durable and thoughtfully designed in 1992, and still invites a variety of birds to backyards in America and beyond. Featuring a vibrant red, polyester powder-coated top and bottom and a stainless steel mesh screen, this feeder is both eye-catching and built to last.

WHY RECYCLED POLY-LUMBER
CHANGES EVERYTHING
High-density polyethylene - the same material used in marine dock boards and park benches - resists moisture, UV, insects, and freeze-thaw damage indefinitely. Applied to bird feeders, it solves every failure mode wood has.
Rots after 2-4 seasons
Resists rot indefinitely
Warps and cracks in freeze-thaw
Dimensionally stable year-round
Absorbs moisture, grows mold
Non-porous, easy to clean
Needs painting and sealing
Zero Maintenance required
Consumes virgin timber
100% post-consumer recylced
POST-CONSUMER PLASTIC
Our HDPE lumber comes from milk jugs, detergent bottles, and other household plastics keeping plastic out of landfills and oceans before it ever reaches your yard.
THE HARSHEST ENVIRONMENTS
HDPE is the standard for marine docks, coastal boardwalks, and outdoor infrastructure that endures constant water, UV, and mechanical stress. Wisconsin winters are demanding - this material is proven in conditions far beyond them.
NON-POROUS + FOOD SAFE
Its non-porous structure also means cleaning with water and a brush is genuinely effective - not just cosmetic. HDPE is FDA-recognized for food use. The birds eat from your feeder free of leaching chemicals or wood preservatives.
QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP,
FROM START TO FINISH
No cutting corners on material. No exceptions at any step-from the lumber that enters the mill to the unit that leaves the dock.
BIRD FIRST DESIGN
Every product we sell carries the thoughtful american crafts- manship that Birds Choice was founded with. Expertly catered to every birds needs.
PRECISION MACHINING
Feeder ports, entrance holes, drainage slots, and mounting points are machined to exact spec. A bluebird hole is 1.50" - not approximately.
QUALITY INSPECTION
Every unit is inspected before shipping-tolerances, hardware, and finish checked against standards refined over decades of building for real birds in real Wisconsin winters.
HDPE MILLING
Post-consumer HDPE is sourced, cleaned, and extruded into dense lumber profiles with tighter tolerances than wood grain allows.
HAND ASSEMBLY
Stainless steel fasteners and UV-stable hardware are assem- bled by hand. Access doors tested for cold-weather opera- tion. Roof fits checked for
weather-tightness.
Stainless Steel Hardware
Every fastener and hinge is stainless — immune to the rust that fails galvanized hardware within any moisture exposure.
perfect entrance holes
Nest box entrances follow ornithological standards. Fractions of an inch determine which birds enter and which predators cannot.
Drainage designed in
Every feeder has drainage machined into the structure. Standing water breeds bacteria harmful to birds, we prevent it by design.
Easy cleaning
Removable bases on feeders. Easy-open fronts on houses. Regular cleaning is the most important factor in bird health — so we build for it.
Wisconsin winter-tested
Every product endures freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and subzero temperatures. If it holds up in Chilton in year round, it works anywhere in North America.
UV-stabilized
Our HDPE is UV-stabilized to resist fading, chalking, and brittleness. Colors stay true. Structural integrity holds. The feeder looks like it belongs in your yard.

PLASTIC BOTTLES OUT OF LANDFILLS
GOOD FOR THE BIRDS.
GOOD FOR THEIR HABITAT.
Backyard birding is an act of caring for the natural world. We take that seriously — not just in what our products attract, but in how they're made and what they replace.
No timber required
Bird's Choice doesn’t use cedar, redwood, or pine. Our products spare forests entirely — no slow-growing timber harvested, now or in the future.
No replacement cycle, no waste
The most sustainable product is the one you never need to replace. When a feeder lasts decades, it doesn't pass through landfills, shipping routes, or manufacturing lines again. That math compounds across millions of customers.
Backyard conservation
Providing clean feeders, safe nest boxes, and reliable water sources supports local bird populations year-round. North American bird counts have declined sharply in recent decades — a well-managed backyard is a meaningful part of the response.
What people ask about
bird’s Choice
We were founded in 1992 with a straightforward premise: the market was full of wood feeders that cracked within a season, swelled shut after rain, and grew mold that harmed the birds they were meant to attract. Rather than accept that cycle, we set out to build a feeder that was well-made and weatherproof, extending the life of the feeder.
Three things set us apart plainly: we manufacture and distribute our products in the United States, we use post-consumer recycled HDPE instead of wood or virgin plastic, and we back everything with a craftsmanship guarantee and the promise of 100% satisfaction.
Our poly-lumber is made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the same material used in marine dock boards and park benches. It resists moisture, UV, insects, and freeze-thaw damage indefinitely.
The material comes from a familiar source: we source our HDPE lumber from milk jugs, detergent bottles, and other household plastics. To date we’re proud to say we’ve kept over 1,000,000,000 plastic bottles out of landfills and oceans.
Crucially, it's also bird-safe. HDPE's non-porous structure means cleaning with water and a brush is genuinely effective, not just cosmetic. HDPE is FDA-recognized for food use, so birds eat from our feeders free of leaching chemicals or wood preservatives.
Our products are very durable, and we back it to prove it. We design our products with lifetime durability in mind. Every unit is inspected before shipping, with tolerances, hardware, and finish checked against standards we've refined over decades of building for real birds in real Wisconsin winters.
Every fastener and hinge we use is stainless steel, immune to the rust that fails galvanized hardware within any moisture exposure. Our colors are UV-stabilized to resist fading and brittleness over time.
Our recycled and poly-lumber products come with a craftsmanship guarantee and the promise of 100% satisfaction. If you feel your product is not up to your standards, we are here to make it right.
The sustainability math is also compelling: the most sustainable product is the one you never need to replace. When a feeder lasts decades, it doesn't pass through landfills, shipping routes, or manufacturing lines again.
The majority of our products are made in the USA. We've called Chilton, Wisconsin home since 1992, a small city, a focused mission, and the same commitment to quality from the first product to the last one we'll ever ship.
We offer a comprehensive backyard habitat system across four core product categories: bird feeders, bird houses, bird food, and bird baths. We encourage your to take our Bird Feeder Quiz to see what feed is best for you given a number of different factors.
We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return. We charge a $6.00 flat rate return shipping fee and no restocking fee. Products must be unused and in original packaging to qualify. If your product is defective, damaged, or incorrect, we ask that you contact us immediately upon receiving your order so we can evaluate and make it right.
Once we receive and inspect your return, we'll issue a refund to your original payment method, minus the $6.00 return shipping fee. Please note that original shipping charges are non-refundable.
